How to: Change the printer properties.
Solution:
Click the 'Start' button, select 'Settings', and select 'Printers'. Right-click the appropriate printer icon and select 'Properties'. Click the 'Details' tab and change the appropriate settings. Click 'OK' twice.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Printers'. (The 'Printers' window appears.)

3) Right-click the appropriate printer icon. (A pop-up menu appears.)
4) Select 'Properties'. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box appears, where <printer> is the name of the selected printer.)
5) Click the 'Details' tab. (The 'Details' tabbed page appears.)
6) Do one or more of the following:
a) Select the desired printing port from the 'Print to the following port' drop-down list box.
b) Select the desired printer driver from the 'Print using the following driver' drop-down list box.
c) To add a network printing port:
1] Click 'Add Port...'. (The 'Add Port' dialog box appears.)
2] Select the 'Network' radio button.
3] Type the printer name and path in the 'Specify the network path to the printer' box.
4] Click 'OK'.
d) To set the timeout settings:
1] In the 'Timeout settings' group, type the number of seconds Windows 95 should wait before reporting a print error in the 'Not selected' box.
2] In the 'Timeout settings' group, type the number of seconds Windows 95 should wait before reporting a 'not ready' error in the 'Transmission retry' box.
e) To change the spool settings:
1] Click 'Spool Settings...'. (The 'Spool Settings' dialog box appears.)
2] To spool print jobs:
a] Select the 'Spool print jobs so program finishes printing faster' radio button.
b] Do one of the following:
1} Select the 'Start printing after last page is spooled' radio button to start the print job after the last page is spooled.
2} Select the 'Start printing after first page is spooled' radio button to start a print job while the document is being spooled.
3] To print directly to the printer, select the 'Print directly to the printer' radio button.
NOTE: The printer must have enough memory to support printing directly to it.
4] Click 'OK' to close the 'Spool Settings' dialog box. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box reappears.)
f) To change the settings for the printer port:
1] Click 'Port settings...'. (The 'Configure <port> Port' dialog box appears, where <port> is the name of the selected printer port.)
2] Select the 'Spool MS-DOS print jobs' check box to spool MS-DOS based print jobs.
3] Select the 'Check port state before printing' check box.
4] Click 'OK' to close the 'Configure <port> Port' dialog box. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box reappears.)
g) To change the current printer driver:
1] Click 'New Driver...'. (The 'Printers' dialog box appears.)
2] Click 'Yes'. (The 'Select Device' dialog box appears.)
3] Do one of the following to install the printer:
a] Select from the list of available printers:
1} In the 'Manufacturers' list box, select the appropriate manufacturer.
2} In the 'Models' list box, select the appropriate printer model.
b] Use the manufacturer's disk:
1} Click 'Have Disk...'. (The 'Install From Disk' dialog box appears.)
2} Type the path to the disk in the 'Copy manufacturer's files from' drop-down list box.
3} Click 'OK'. (The 'Select Device' dialog box appears.)
4} If prompted, select a printer from the 'Models' list box.
c] Click 'OK'. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box reappears.)
d] If prompted, insert the appropriate Windows 95 diskette or CD-ROM and click 'OK'. (The selected driver is installed.)
h) To remove a port from the list of available ports:
1] Click 'Delete Port...'. (The 'Delete Port' dialog box appears.)
2] Select the port you want to delete from the list box, and click 'OK'. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box reappears.)
i) To map a port to a network drive:
1] Click 'Capture Printer Port...'. (The 'Capture Printer Port' dialog box appears.)
2] Select the port you want to capture from the 'Device' drop-down list box.
3] Type the printer name and path in the 'Path' drop-down list box.
4] Select the 'Reconnect at logon' check box to reconnect the printer each time the network connection is established.
5] Click 'OK' to close the 'Capture Printer Port' dialog box. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box reappears.)
j) To remove a currently mapped network printer:
1] Click 'End Capture...'. (The 'End Capture' dialog box appears.)
2] Select the desired printer from the 'Printer' list box, and click 'OK'. (The '<printer> Properties' dialog box reappears.)
NOTE: Printers which have proprietary configuration software may have a different button which must be clicked to access the configuration settings. If so, refer to the printer manual.
k) Click 'OK' to accept any changes and close the '<printer> Properties' dialog box. (The 'Printers' window reappears.)
7) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit the 'Printers' window.
